Rated the second fastest growing city in Colorado and 16th fastest growing city in the nation by Forbes Magazine, Commerce City covers 41 square miles and is home to more than 40,000 people. The city, the 19th largest city in Colorado and recognized as the hub of commerce in the Denver metropolitan area, is surrounded by interstates 70, 270 and 76, E-470 and is easily accessible by rail or air.
Commerce City provides police, parks, land-use planning, and building permit services, and partners with the South Adams County Water District to provide water and sewer utilities. The South Adams County Fire District provides fire suppression and emergency medical response that is supported by Northglenn Ambulance Company.
The City Council, which is elected on a non-partisan basis, is comprised of a mayor and eight council members. The city’s charter establishes a City Council-City Manager form of government.
